Walk down to the park and lake and a leisurely 15 minute stroll along the towpath brings you to Skeldergate Bridge, with boat trips available, and the heart of the city. Here you may walk the ancient city walls and visit the minster, Castle Museum, Railway Museum and Jorvik Viking centre. Cobbled streets, such as The Shambles and Stonegate with hanging baskets and street players are full of interesting specialist shops and restaurants.
The National Parks of the Dales and the moors both lie within 30 miles, whilst the coast at Filey, Scarborough and Whitby are all within 45 miles. Racing at York, Wetherby, Thirsk, Ripon and Beverly. Historical places of interest in the area include Castle Howard, Beningborough Hall and Rievaulx Abbey and Nunnington Hall. Armouries Museum in Leeds 25 miles.
