Just a short walk will take you to the shore of Ullswater where there are all year round regular steamers travelling the sinuous length of the lake, calling at Howton on the way south to Glenridding. Water sports, cycling and walking are all popular activities and whichever you choose you’ll be amazed by the spectacular scenery which Wordsworth called ‘the happiest combination of beauty and grandeur’. South of the lake you can drive over the scenic Kirkstone Pass which takes you down into the popular village of Ambleside and on to Windermere. The traditional market town of Penrith with a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants is 6 miles. Shops and pubs 30 metres.
