Description

Nestling within richly wooded parkland amidst the grandeur of majestic pine trees this exclusive retreat offers seclusion, privacy, tranquillity and a unique environment close to nature. Once the country retreat of the Hemmingway family this delightful 16 acre park is now home to a select collection of contemporary, holiday lodges.
Each detached single storey lodge is different and has something special to offer, some of the bathrooms have Jacuzzi baths and steam room showers, and even a sauna in one of the lodges. The beautiful fully fitted kitchens are well equipped and some of the lodges even enjoy the added benefit of a private hot hub. All have spacious living and dining areas and are a mix of two and three bedroom units.
Splendid furnishings, central heating, double glazing and fantastic attention to detail makes these lodges an ideal choice for a summer or winter break. A great location for a family holiday, a relaxing retreat for couples or a great place to catch up with friends. For a special occasion you could book a few lodges and make it a memorable celebration.
Large deck and seating areas from the French doors of the lodges overlook the pretty parkland, the perfect spot to watch the squirrels playing in the pine trees, the many birds and rabbits and if you are lucky you may see the roe deer grazing on the open grass. Lovely walks can be enjoyed from the lodges but for those who want to venture further afield there are so many great activities close by, with the glorious sandy beaches and breathtaking coastal paths of North Devon and North Cornwall just a 30 minute drive. There are many stunning beaches to choose from including Widemouth Bay famous for its excellent surfing, or Crackington Haven a joy for rock pools and lazy afternoons. Coarse and trout fishing available for a small fee by arrangement, at the owner’s nearby site, and guests can hire equipment if needed.
The popular resort of Bude lies just 18 miles away and has an excellent range of shops and restaurants many specialising in locally caught seafood, along with a golf course, surf schools, tennis, riding, indoor ‘Splash’ pool, bowling as well as three more lovely sandy beaches.
Just over 7 miles away is the watersport centre at Roadford Lake. Where you will find sailing, canoeing, rowing, angling, pretty walks, picnic spots and a lovely lakeside restaurant. The area is a must for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers with the famous Tarka Trail and the wild beauty of Dartmoor close by.
There is a great choice of places to eat out, with local pubs and quality restaurants in the surrounding market towns and villages offering a vast array of locally produced fare. Halwill Junction has a lovely traditional village pub serving real ales and good home cooking, along with a village store and fish and chip shop.
Holsworthy, Hatherleigh and Okehampton, all about 11 miles away, hold traditional farmers markets which are the perfect place to get local produce and use the lodge’s impressive kitchen to cook yourself a local feast.
Nearby Holsworthy has a good selection of local shops, supermarket, indoor pool and leisure centre and 18-hole golf course. Okehampton is home to the Museum of Dartmoor Life and to the Dartmoor Railway from Okehampton to Crediton. It also has a superb cinema.
There are numerous NT properties in the area and garden lovers will enjoy the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Hartland Abbey and Lighthouse are well worth a visit along with many other local beauty spots including Bucks Mills and Clovelly, an old fishing village clinging to the steep cliff, with cobbled streets and a picturesque harbour. Family attractions including The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure parks which will keep old and young amused all day and for a great day out the fa...
