Formerly the home of the acclaimed artist Sir Alfred Munnings - famous for his paintings of horses, hunting scenes, landscapes and village characters - this magnificent Grade II listed detached house was also the venue of the artist’s special punch parties. Steeped in history, Mendham Hall displays many unusual and interesting features. Heavily beamed, the house also has a wealth of inlaid oak floors, mullion windows and two unusual fireplaces. Also to be found along the coastline are Walberswick and Dunwich RSPB Reserve. Going in the other direction from Mendham Hall leads to the Norfolk Broads and the pretty market towns of Harleston, Beccles (the start of the Broads) and Bungay (for canoe and bicycle hire). Also within an easy drive are the North Norfolk Coast and the city of Norwich with its castle, cathedral and museums. Shop 2 miles, pub 100 yards.
