Description

Steeped in history, this imposing, detached holiday cottage dates back to 1888 and was originally the residence of a former sea commander. Many original features are still evident, with a wood-panelled entrance hall, stripped wood flooring and cast-iron fireplaces throughout adding to the charm and character of this beautiful property, which makes the perfect place for a family get-together. Huge comfortable sofas and armchairs adorn each floor, with quiet reading corners looking out over open countryside to the front, and picture windows to the rear affording stunning sea views across the pretty gardens down to Robin Hoods Bay. Fylingthorpe sits at the top of the ancient fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay where visitors step back in time as they follow the row of tumbling fisherman’s cottages and the cobbled streets (lined with curio shops, tea rooms, inns and restaurants) down to the sandy little cove. The historic Port of Whitby - where Captain James Cook set sail from on his epic journey of discovery - is but a 10-minute drive. Here the colourful promenade leads to a 3-mile stretch of award-winning sandy beach. The North York Moors steam train can be boarded to discover some of Yorkshire’s finest scenery as it chugs its way through the beautiful Esk valley into the famous village of Goathland - renowned for its connections with TV’s Heartbeat. A little further south of the village is the elegant seaside town of Scarborough. Golfing, fishing, sea trips, cycle and walking tracks are all available locally. Shops 150 yards, pubs and restaurants 100 yards.
