Bamburgh, with its fine fortress towering over the village, is a short drive with a beautiful much photographed golden sandy beach making a spectacular setting for picnics and days by the sea. Nearby Seahouses, famous for its fine fish and chips and friendly seaside atmosphere, has a small working fishing harbour where boat trips can be taken to The Farne Islands to visit the seals and puffins, or Craster famous for smoked kippers with its beautiful walk to Dunstanburgh Castle.
