Description

This attractive, 18th-century detached cottage, once used for drying hops, stands in beautifully maintained gardens, open under the National Gardens Scheme. Comfortably furnished with French doors leading to the garden it is an ideal retreat after a hard day’s touring. Set on the edge of a picturesque village with ancient timbered buildings, it is a perfect base for exploring this wonderful corner of England. The Oast House is suitable for families holidaying together.
With a VisitEngland ‘4 Star’ grade, The Oast House makes a comfortable base from which to explore the delights of the remarkable city of Oxford. The beautiful college buildings, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers museums and excellent shops, inns and restaurants make for a memorable day out.
A trip to Windsor with its impresssive castle, and Henley-on-Thames to relax by the river is the perfect day out on a summer’s day. Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water are both approximately 30 miles away and offer the most picture-postcard villages in this beautiful area with quaint shops and pubs. For families in particular, Legoland – reached in under an hour – makes for an interesting day out.
Stratford-upon-Avon, famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, is within easy driving distance. Here, the many attractions associated with the bard include the Birthplace Museum, Holy Trinity Church (his burial place), and several of his relative’s houses. Just east of Stratford is Charlecote Park, a huge country estate centred on an ornate Elizabethan mansion. The vast park and gardens boast delightful views of the surrounding villages, and croquet can be played on the lawn.
Easy access to Cheltenham with its old buildings and museums which are worth visiting and Blenheim Palace with rolling, formal parkland and an attractive lake. The capital, London, is easily accessible either by train or car. Shop in village.
