Two of four cottages, Derwent (ref QCC) and Dovedale (ref QCD), are carefully converted from historic farm buildings belonging to Stainsborough Hall. Away from the main road, set in 15 acres of grounds, each cottage has a south-facing terrace overlooking a walled garden and unfenced pond with views of rolling hills. There is a play area with swings and a games barn with table tennis and darts. Guests also have use of the hard tennis court. An ideal spot for walking and cycling (bring own bikes or hire locally). A short walk through the fields leads to the edge of Carsington Water. There is fishing and boating from Carsington Water Visitors’ Centre. Ashbourne and Matlock, 6 miles. Local attractions include Haddon, Sudbury and Kedleston Halls, Alton Towers, Dovedale, Chatsworth, Crich Tramway Museum, Heights of Abraham and Gullivers Kingdom. Wirksworth is 1 mile with shops, pubs and restaurants.
