An excellent centre from which to discover the many places of interest nearby; Ballater itself is a lovely base with many links to the Royal family and historic castles nearby include Balmoral, Crathies and Craigievar. The Grampians offer wonderful hill walking and wildlife, and the surrounding area of Deeside is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Leisurely walks abound on the banks of the River Dee or alternatively tackle some of the Monros and other mountains in the Cairngorms - a short drive away via some majestic scenery. Skiing is 35 minutes’ drive going through parts of the Whisky Trail, and canoeing and mountain biking are also readily available throughout the region. Shops and pub 100 yards.
