A popular pastime is to take a steamer from Pooley Bridge, leave the steamer at Howtown and walk to Glenridding – one of Wordsworth’s favourite walks – offering spectacular views of the lake and Helvellyn. Penrith is only 5 miles away and offers a wealth of facilities including restaurants, museums, theatre and bird centre.
