A short drive leads to Stanhope, with its popular Durham Dales Centre and traditional shops and restaurants. Barnard Castle is well worth a visit, taking time to enjoy a day at the Bowes Museum. The owner offers a Christmas meal for two including a bottle of wine for £35.
