The county of East Sussex lays in South East England along the English Channel. The coastal towns within the county of East Sussex have become a popular tourist destination, due to its numerous beachside resorts. There are well over 240 villages scattered about the lands of East Sussex County.

The scenic villages and towns of East Sussex are worth the visit. English charm and character are in abundance in Alfriston, with its quaint cottages and narrow streets.  The hillside town of Rye comes complete with small shoppes and a ghost tour. Near Rye lays the smallest town in England, Winchelsea.

East Sussex is home to the natural beauty of the sea, as well as the rolling countryside. The county has several long-distance footpaths that visitors can explore, including 1066 Country Walk, Wealdway, Saxon Shore Way, South Downs Way, High Weald Landscape Trail, Sussex Border Path, Vanguard Way and Sussex Ouse Valley Way.

East Sussex has a wealth of natural and historical landmarks. The Weald and the Downs are popular among tourists, especially the Longman of Wilmington on the South Downs.

There are several historical buildings of interest in East Sussex, among them are the castles of Lewes, Pevensey, Bodiam and Herstmonceux.  The defensive buildings of Eastbourne Redoubt and Martello Towers are also sites to see. The Eastbourne Redoubt Fortress Military Museum offers its visitors a peak into the past. The Battle Abbey, which was built in honor of the Battle of Hastings, is yet another treasure in the county of East Sussex.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of artistic attraction in East Sussex, including the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne, Firle Place, which is home to a collection of art works, and St. Denys Church in Rotherfield, with is gorgeous stained glass windows.

The city of Brighton is located on the South Coast in East Sussex and boasts beautiful beaches and a former royal palace, the Royal Pavilion. The Brighton Pier is popular among toursists and features restaurants, arcades and a funfair. Millions visit Brighton every year for all the seaside city has to offer.
